The line label is not the calculation.
A paycheck can show straight time for all hours plus a separate additional premium. Another format shows regular-time earnings and full overtime earnings. Both can represent the same gross pay.
Format A: 45 × $24 = $1,080, plus 5 × $12 = $60 premium. Format B: 40 × $24 = $960, plus 5 × $36 = $180 full overtime. Both total $1,140.
Comparing a $60 premium line with $180 full overtime earnings would create a false $120 difference. Select the meaning of your entered amount in the paycheck checker.
Mixed rates need extra care
If you worked at multiple effective rates in one week, a full overtime line may depend on how straight time was allocated. This checker withholds that comparison. Use total modeled gross or the separate additional premium instead. Ask payroll to explain its method if the format is unclear.
