## Short answer

Both tools estimate take-home pay from gross pay, federal W-4 settings, a state, and benefits. They document different things. ADP’s public calculators accept overtime hours and amounts that you enter. Pay in View also calculates federal weekly overtime, California daily overtime, and the federal qualified overtime deduction. Pay in View shows the formula, source, and date for each official state method. Neither tool replaces your employer’s payroll.

This comparison uses ADP’s public [hourly](https://www.adp.com/resources/tools/calculators/hourly-paycheck-calculator.aspx) and [salary](https://www.adp.com/resources/tools/calculators/salary-paycheck-calculator.aspx) paycheck calculator pages, checked in a browser on 2026-10-26. It describes only what those pages show or state. ADP does not publish its internal calculation method.

## What ADP’s public calculators document

- Pay frequency (weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly), hourly or salary earnings, and up to six hourly rates.
- Overtime and double-time rows where you enter the hours and amount.
- A paycheck date, 2020-or-later or 2019-and-earlier federal W-4 inputs, and exemption choices.
- A state or territory list with 50 states, DC, and Puerto Rico.
- Medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, and retirement deductions. ADP notes that some states, such as New Jersey and Pennsylvania, tax certain benefits.
- A disclaimer: the calculator gives “general guidance and estimates” and “should not be relied upon to calculate exact taxes, payroll or other financial data.”

## What ADP does not publish

ADP’s pages do not publish an overtime algorithm, rounding rules, annualization method, tax-table version, state formula sources, local-tax inputs, or worked test cases. The widget does not calculate California daily, double-time, or seventh-day overtime from a schedule. It does not show a separate federal qualified overtime deduction. These are documentation gaps, not evidence that ADP’s results are wrong.

## What Pay in View documents

- **Gross overtime:** the [federal weekly method](https://payinview.com/us/overtime-calculator) with weighted rates and separate workweeks, and a [California workweek calculator](https://payinview.com/us/california-overtime-calculator) with daily overtime and no pyramiding.
- **State withholding:** opt-in official 2026 formulas for Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Each method names its publication, effective dates, rounding, and published examples. Other states use a dated bracket estimate or your payroll amount.
- **Federal deduction:** the [qualified overtime deduction calculator](https://payinview.com/us/qualified-overtime-deduction-calculator) applies the cap and phaseout. The paycheck tool uses your W-4 Step 4(b) entry rather than assuming overtime is tax-free.
- **Limits:** one W-2 job, Single or Married filing jointly for federal withholding, and manual local taxes and employee contributions. See the [paycheck methodology](https://payinview.com/us/paycheck-methodology).

## Which should I use?

Use either tool for a quick take-home estimate. Use Pay in View when you need to see how an overtime amount or state withholding was calculated. Use your employer’s payroll system or pay stub for the actual amount. If two tools differ, compare inputs first: gross pay, pay date, state elections, benefits, and year-to-date wages.
